Making a choice at the crossroads
Why LED over Laser?

First let's explain what LED stands for, just for the benefit for that who do not already know. LED stands for "Light Emitting Diode" and when you are talking about using LEDs for light therapy it is also good to know that there are different colors and each color that is used is in actually a different wavelength. So why the different wavelengths? Well, each particular wavelength is beneficial in treating and helping to eliminating specific problems. More on that in a different post, back to the subject at hand.

LEDs are a rather recent development of the laser industry; one of the main differences between LEDs and lasers is that LEDs disperse the light over a much broader area than laser do.

Being able to disperse light over a broader area allows for a safer use while at the same time it allows for that light to be applied to a much broader area of the area that is to be treated. This then makes the treatment time necessary to treat specific conditions much shorter in length and at the same time make the use of LEDs much more economical in nature.

In addition, LEDs do not deliver the same amount of power that could damage the tissue when applied directly, but on the other hand, LEDs do deliver enough energy to stimulate the body to start a self-healing effect. This is the main reason that more and more practitioners are moving to LED-based technology over laser-based technology, not to mention that the risk to eye damage from the use of LEDs is virtually dismissed.

Low Level Light Therapy is readily available from New Wave Therapy and we only use LED-based technology for the safety of your horse, yourself, and our people. If you feel that your horse would benefit from Low Level Light Therapy or you just want to gain more information about the therapy please feel free to contact us, we will be happy to answer any and all questions that you might have.
